FSX P3D AUTOGEN DEFAULT.XML TWEAK

In this post I'd like to give some helpful information for simmers who don't have powerful computer to perform high autogen settings.

It's a some old but useful tweak. To apply this tweak you should go to Autogen folder in root FSX/P3D directory. Then to open default.xml with notepad and change first line which is " Utf-16 " to " Utf-8 ". I'm aware it removes most of the specific autogen elements but after that i'm able to run simulator with full autogen density and stutter free and to be honest it simply gives more realistic view to me. As I'm running P3D with Orbx Global addon, i noticed amount of trees really giving unrealistic view for  me in high density settings without that tweak. So I'm happy with that setting overall as I'm flying IFR most of the time. It produces realistic enough environment for departures and landings. So overall it worths try to see results and decide.

Here  is an example from approach and take off;

From that captures, it's also possible to see well texture handling in Prepar3D which I've mentioned in first post.

PREPAR3D SIMLAUNCHER ADDON

I've mentioned about that addon which is very useful against Prepar3D no start up menu problem. It has very simple interface and easy to use. It also allows to edit FTX settings as seen in picture

PREPAR3D (P3D) VS FLIGHT SIMULATOR X (FSX)

As it’s my first post in this blog and i’ll use Prepar3D in testings and many more things, i’d like to mention about my reasons about switching to Prepar3d (1.4). Like the most of the flight simmers around i was aware of Prepar3d too but i’ve just kept using FSX and spending most of the time with tweaking due to i don’t have strong computer to make FSX work smoothly. So after reading comments regarding to P3D i've decided to give a shot and to see what is difference actually.

After applying optimum settings, first impression was maybe less fps but more smooth and stable running. The key of realism is smoothness as we watch videos on Youtube tittled with ‘As Real It Gets’ . So we can count it like first advantage of P3D. After testing non-addon P3D i’ve started to install necessary addons for me like ORBX Global, REX4, QW146 and few more and i started to real testing. So far increase on texture loading speed was obvious and it brings less blurries as we know. Also autogen handling was improved but i must say i wasn’t able to use high level autogen due my computer specs. There is other thing to mention which occurs in FSX with mouse pointer known as annoying mouse lag removed in P3D. It costs about 4-5 fps or even more and its clearly not noticable in P3D. So we can also count it like a great improvement and fps increase as it's very important for flight simmers using complex addons even in powerful computers.

As we talked about advantages of P3D there is also disadvantages too which i’d like to mention.  I must admit in first times i’ve thinked about returning back to FSX due to no startup menu exists in P3D. It was huge time loss and annoying really loading in default airport and switch to other etc.. But after a few research i discoverd very useful program called “SimLauncer”. It’s almost equal to fsx startup menu which allows you choosing plane, location, fuel, flight plan, weather and time as in FSX. So it’s no more a disadvantage for me. There is also diffuculties to using ENB Series which i will mention later in another posts. For me it’s mostly working but sometimes it can cause crashes. In addition we know there is some addons not supported by P3D but it’s not big problem as most of them working with some tweaks.

So overall i’m happy now with that switch and i started to spend more time with simming rather then tweaking. I hope it will be helpful for peoples who  is waiting to try P3D. Actually as it’s builded on same code sources,  P3D is more optimized and definetely more stabil and smooth to use with less effort for tweaking.
